Business assistance grant program
The City of Santa Clarita is considering a business assistance grant program to support qualifying businesses experiencing economic hardship associated with the Bouquet Canyon Road closure. The proposed program will be discussed at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The City provides the following information in accordance with California Government Code Section 53083.
Government Code Section 53083 Disclosure
- Beneficiaries
Specific grant recipients are not known at this time and will be determined through the application and eligibility review process. Eligibility is limited to qualifying businesses located within APNs 2812-038-005, 2812-038-006, 2812-038-007, and 2812-008-030. - Program Schedule
The application period is anticipated to take place from October through November, 2026. Following application review, awards will be issued to eligible businesses. Grant recipients must remain open and actively operating for a minimum of two years following execution of a grant agreement. - Description and Estimated Expenditure
The Program will provide temporary financial assistance toward eligible operating expenses for businesses demonstrating economic hardship associated with the Bouquet Canyon Road closure. Awards will not exceed $35,000 per eligible business. The estimated total City subsidy is $590,000.
- Public Purpose
The Program is intended to preserve employment and commercial occupancy, maintain economic activity and access to goods and services, and reduce the potential for business closures, loss of tax revenue, prolonged vacancies, commercial blight, increased vehicle miles traveled, and diminished investment within the affected area. - Projected Tax Revenue
Businesses within the eligible commercial corridor currently generate approximately $100,000 in annual sales tax revenue to the City. The Program is intended to support the retention of these businesses and associated tax revenue not to increase the existing revenue base. - Estimated Jobs Created
The Program is intended to retain existing businesses and employment rather than create new positions. Accordingly, no new full-time, part-time, or temporary positions are projected.
