Welcome to the City of Santa Clarita!
In 1987, the City of Santa Clarita became the largest area to incorporate in the state of California. At just 39 square miles back then, the new City included the communities of Saugus, Newhall, Valencia and Canyon Country. Since then, dozens of neighborhoods have been annexed to the City, making Santa Clarita the third largest City in Los Angeles County.
Santa Clarita is a unique community, nestled in a beautiful valley just 30 miles north of Downtown Los Angeles.
Our City has earned an enviable reputation as a tight-knit, safe, family-oriented community with many fantastic facilities, amenities, programs and events. In fact, Santa Clarita is regularly ranked in national polls as one of the safest, happiest and healthiest cities in the nation.
Sports and outdoor recreation are highly valued by our residents. Our community boasts dozens of picturesque parks, including Central Park, the crown jewel of our City Parks system. Our parks offer residents places to recreate, play sports, engage with neighbors and be active. Some park amenities include inclusive play elements, picnic areas, multisport lighted fields, pools, classrooms and event spaces.
Our City also offers more than 100 miles of off-street trails and paseos that provide residents with a safe place to run, walk or ride. Thousands of acres of open space provide an opportunity to explore the pristine, natural environment surrounding our City, whether on foot, bicycle or horseback.
Santa Clarita Public Library branches welcome residents to browse collections, engage in programs, access resources and be entertained at story times and events. Residents of all ages can find their latest hobby, skill or passion through classes at our Canyon Country and Newhall Community Centers.
The City of Santa Clarita also hosts a full calendar of world-class events each year. From the popular Cowboy Festival and Santa Clarita Marathon to summertime favorite Concerts in the Park and SENSES Block Parties, there is always something to do in our City.
As you travel through Santa Clarita, you will notice the pride we take in keeping our community clean, graffiti-free and safe. Our graffiti team proudly removes 99% of incidents within 24 hours. Staff is also highly dedicated to maintaining local roads, streets, bridges, sidewalks and infrastructure.
Santa Clarita Transit offers many safe, affordable and efficient trip options for residents to make their way around the City. For those looking to travel outside the region, Santa Clarita is also home to four Metrolink Stations.
One area of the City that is a must-visit is the premier arts and entertainment district of Old Town Newhall. In addition to multiple art galleries and public art pieces, this historic area of town is also burgeoning with entertainment, unique dining establishments, tasting rooms, local wineries and specialty boutique shops.
Old Town Newhall has long been a star on the silver screen and some of the earliest silent movies were filmed on the Western streets and in the rugged canyons of Santa Clarita. Today, Santa Clarita is known as “Hollywood North” and is home to many sound stages and movie ranches. Filming also brings local economic benefits to our community.
Creating a high quality of life for our residents remains a top priority for the City of Santa Clarita, which is made possible through our engaged community as well as our dedicated and responsive approach to local government. We value the community’s input, which is gathered through regular public opinion polls, participation at City Council meetings and feedback through the Resident Service Center (RSC). The RSC platform allows residents to submit feedback, ask questions and request services from the City.
Residents can also interact with the City and discover local programs and projects through our social media pages, official website, Seasons magazine, email newsletters, community meetings and more.
The City of Santa Clarita will continue to be an innovative, forward-thinking organization that is strategically planning and working every day to maintain a high quality of life for the residents we serve, now and into the future.
